Oh that illusive comma

Hiya teachers

In the given sentence: "It must leave much to the composer's imagination so that the music has work to do."

How do I explain WHY there is no comma between "imagination" and "so"?

Please note, this is not about improving the sentence, but about explaining punctuation rules.

As with other clauses, if they are introductory, a comma is necessary; when they follow the independent clause, the comma is optional. Because he was late, he ran even faster ~ He ran even faster because he was late. ]
