Ogle and ogle at

Hi

Many Indian and Pakistani writers use at with ogle.

He was ogling at her in the party.

Would you say ogle at is natural? Or does it sound simply wrong to your native ears?

Almost. I would not use 'at', but I think many AmE speakers would.

It doesn't sound completely unnatural to me, but it is a bit uncommon. Google Ngrams shows that since 1800, "ogle at" has been used much less often than just "ogle" in all varieties of English. There is no year since then in which "ogle at" was used more than j
