"often" used as adjective

Hi!

The sentence below are lyrics of a song. I had never encountered the usage of "often" as adjective before.

"So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
and we never even know we have the key."

Is it used in everyday speech?

And could you please review my pronunciation in the post below?

Thanks.

It should be written as a single word oftentimes , and it's an adverb. In my opinion it's a less formal and less often heard substitute for 'often'. Right or wrong, I find it has a sort of "folksy" feel about it.

It presumably should be "So, oftentimes it happens ...". "oftentimes" is an adverb.

It isn't too bad. I had a little difficulty picking up "it's just a popular tool that I can use" (is that right?) the first time, but when I listened to it again I understood it. When you say "

Your English is pretty good. Sometimes, though, it's not completely understandable because I think you're talking too fast!
