offset something

I don't know which word to use in this situation. Could you correct the paragraph please?
My girlfriend and I split the chores and house work down the middle. For every one thing she does, I have to do one thing. I clean the living room, she does the bedroom. I take care of the laundry. She takes care of the dishwasher. Yesterday she asked me why I hadn't done the dishes. I told her that I do the laundry. That offsets the dishes.

Thank you in advance

Is offset the good choice?

(A different "Anonymous" posting here) Offset looks like a good choice to me.
