offset passive and active

Hi expert members,
Is offset used properly in the following examples? I've never seen it used this way.

You passion for photography is offset by my passion for writing. While you do photography I write. The rest of the time, we spend together.

Every time he gets a win, he gets 2 points. Every time I get a win I get 1 point. I need to win 2 wins to offsets his win.

1. " The speaker is fanatical about writing, while his girlfriend is equally fanatical about photography. Were only one of them fanatical about something, the relationship would not work because, say, if the speaker were fanatical about writing, while his girl had no pastime, then, while is was writing, she would be twiddling her thumbs and would start to resent his pastime.
