Official mascot

The Olympic Games always has an official mascot.

I know mascot means a situation or person or object which brings good luck to someone but I wonder what they mean by "official mascot" here.

Top answer

A character symbolizing, advertising and representing the Olympics. If Vancouver chooses the Polar Bear, for instance, someone will dress up in a Polar Bear suit and prance around in the venues.

Thanks a lot Mister Micawber.

But I failed to understand what they want to convey by "official mascot" here.

"Official" means that those in charge have chosen it.

Thanks a lot friends again.

But I'm so stupid to understand it yet.
