Offending To/Against

What's the difference in meaning between 'offending to modesty' and 'offending against modesty'?

Top answer

"Offending to modesty" is unlikely, and it is not the same as "offending against modesty". I can't think of a context for "to" in which it would not be a mistake for "against".
