"Off" used as preposition.

Hi! How have you been?

I was looking for "off" usages as a preposition, and I found out it's quite informal if used this way. For example:

I'm a long way off being fluent in another language.
The skillet fell off the cooker.
I steered the car off the main road to avoid the cops coming towards me.

So, is it really informal? May it be used in an address, for example, or its usage in this sense is strictly limited to a less formal language?

Thanks in advance!

Off the cuff, I would say that "off" is a perfectly good preposition that can be used in any context.

There's nothing formal or informal about off. It's used in all contexts.

Here are some for you.

Keep off the grass! Stay off the grass! Keep the cat off the kitchen table! He jumped off the fence. He jumped off a cliff. He jumped off a bridge. He dropped it off the top of the building. It dropped off the edge.
