Vocabulary

off to/go

Hello,
I was just told something which sounded weird to me. All these sentences: "I am flying to Germany soon." , "I will be flying to Germany soon.", "I am going to fly to Germany soon." sounded unnatural. How comes? The only one that sounded "okay" to the listener was "I am off to Germany soon." Am I missing something or?

"I am off to Germany soon."

This does not tell us that you are going by plane.

If you say it in eg Canada, a plane will be assumed.
But if you say it in eg Britain, other methods of transportation are easily available.

Thanks for the correction. Yes, Clive, I agree. I live in Europe, so...it could be anything.
