What's the difference between 'off-the-shelf' and 'premade'? As in:
off–the–shelf software

That is not a term I know. Perhaps you mean 'prefabricated'. 'Off the shelf' refers more to design, in contradistinction to 'customized' or 'tailor-made'...both of which could also be prefabricated (i.e. made before sale).
