Off the cuff

Hi

I want to know if the idiom off the cuff can be used both in formal written English and everyday casual conversation?

She delivered the speech off the cuff.

Thanks,

Tom

Consider

'She delivered an impromptu/extempore/unprepared speech.'

(Extempore is pronounced extempory - with the stress on the second syllable.)
