Is the following correct?
Since studying by the book only is tedious, the teacher adds some information off the book.

There is an idiomatic phrase whereby 'book' at the end of your sentence does not in fact refer back to the book that is being studied. If the last few words of the sentence are taken in that way, it means that the teacher introduces material that wouldn't normally be used in the teaching of that book
