I had been off to work for some time on my friend's house to attend party.

I have plucked the apple off the tree.

I got the pen off him before he ran away.

I don't like taking knowledge off you.

I am still a long way off proficient English.

I could understand this sentence as, "I don't like receiving knowledge from you".
