Off-color

Hi, if hypothetically, a ruby is closer to being pink than red, can we call it an "off-color" ruby because it's not the usual color? If so, then if it were closer to black than red, could we still call it "an off-color" ruby? And I used "hypothetically" because I've never seen a pink-oriented or even black-oriented ruby, I just want to know if "off-color" refers to the abnormality of the color the ruby.

Venom Snake can we call it an "off-color" ruby because it's not the usual color? Yes, but be aware that "off-color" is becoming a worsened word. It is often used to refer to the sexually suggestive, and it will sound a bit like that to the ignorant.
