Grammar

of which / on which / for whcih / in which .....

Under what circumstances do we use: 'of which', 'on which' and 'for which'?

I would appreciate it if you would kindly give me some examples. Thank you!

As for 'in which', is it the same as 'where'? e.g.

This is the house in which the prisoner has been hiding for years.

This is the house where the prisoner has been hiding for years.

Hi Nemessos Your last two sentences are correct and synonymous. In which and where are usually interchangeable but in English there is the odd exception to practically everything. Which has nothing to do with the choice of the preposition.

We need to get the recipe for her pecan pie, of which we ate more than our share at dinner last Sunday.

Here are the three choices, two of which must be eliminated before the day is over.
