According to various opposition activist groups, between 75,365 and 100,195 people have been killed,[27][32][37][62] of which about half were civilians,[63] but also including 61,000 armed combatants consisting of both the Syrian Army and rebel forces,[27] up to 1,000 opposition protesters[31] and 1,000 government officials.

Am I correct in saying this is poorly written because 'of which...' doesn't connect to this portion of the sentence well.

I find that all unclear in several ways.

Just as an example, I don't see why opposition protesters are not also considered as civilians. The writer needs to define his use of the term 'civilian' more clearly.

I wonder if he means this? I'm really not sure.
