Of as a preposition

a) He is of intelligence.
b) He is of average intelligence
c) He is a man of intelligence
d) He is a man of average intelligence

Which of these are incorrect and why?

I wouldn't say #1 is wrong, but it is not idiomatic. The others are all OK.

From best to worst, i.e., correct to incorrect: d, b, c, a.

I would say that c is on the border between correct and incorrect. I would not use it. Some speakers may accept it.
