Odds against

Hi,

Can you please explain to me the following sentence:

"Vegas odds would've been
against you walking out of there."

"Yeah, I'm very impressive."

Thanks.

If you were gambling in a casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and you gave the staff $100, then asked them how much money they would give you if the other speaker 'walked out of there', they would say '$200' or more. The casino would give you betting odds-- a favorable ratio-- that the other speaker would not walk out, because they think it probable that s/he will not walk out. Got that, Mano?

  • In other words, the first speaker did not think that the second speaker would have walked out of there-- but the second speaker did walk out, I surmise, because s/he was impressive.
