I would like to know the meaning of "as long as they're occupied".

"As long as" works like "since" here. It's not really an adverb of time.

You can use my car as long as you fill up the tank when you're finished. (Here, it means "if.")
(or, "under the condition that") ("on condition that")
Since/if they're occupied (busy doing something instead of bothering us), who cares what they're doing!
