obliged

He feels obliged/obligated to help the poor.

Are they interchangeable?

Hi N2G Basically, yes (in AmE). However, I'd say that using 'obligated' has a stronger sense that outside forces have caused him to feel the obligation. Others may disagree, and there may be a difference in usage here between BE and AmE.
