Oblige and talked of

But not long was the interval of tranquillity; for when supper was over, singing was talked of, and she had the mortification of seeing Mary, after very little entreaty, preparing to oblige the company.

What do talked of and oblige mean in the context? talked of means 'to speak about' but the meaning is not clear in the context. Would somebody explain? Does oblige mean 'to join' in the sentence?
