Grammar

objective complement

Can anyone help me understand the difference btw the followings please?

A: Subject + Verb + Object + Adverb (or without Obj)
B: Subject + Verb + Object + Object complement (or without Obj)

I understand A and B have different meanings. But, what I am confused is if A and B cab be always used exchangeable and they are grammatically correct?

For example;
I eat food healthily.
I eat food healthy.

I read quietly.
I read quite.

You live your life happy.
You live your life happily.

I think since both sentence structures are correct, you can pretty much say anything as long as it is logical and expresses what you want to say.

Also, I think your second two examples are more likely than the first... it's a little awkward I think... ;-)

That adverb/adjective pair sounds better in the third example:

I live my life healthy.
I live my life healthfully. (sounds better to me than "healthily")

Hello, springmeans. I cannot make any overall comment about your A vs B, but these are correct and normal, while the others are not acceptable at all:

I eat healthy food.
I read quietly.
You live your life happily.
