This is difficult to explain.

To give an objective account of something means to give information on something with regard to what the overall outcome was or should be.

As a contrast, to give a 'subjective' account of something means to give information on something with regard to the effect of a particular element of it rather than the overall outcome.

Let's say the Government introduces a new law for the benefit of everyone. The Government will give an objective account of the new law - ie an account of why the new law is of benefit to everybody. But, others will give a subjective account of the new - ie how the new law will affect them for the good or bad.

What is objective and subjective is in the eye of the beholder.

A government isn't necessary a more objective reporting body, it might be even a more politically motivated, thus not objective.

I'd say the first definition in the above (by Feebs11) is the closest: a serious, non-biased, impartial report/account. Now, all the adjectives here can be qualified (subject to interpretation).
