I would not call "explaining ..." an object complement. I would just say it's a participle clause. The same is true for "being able ...".

Both of those non-finite clauses are alternate ways of expressing when-clauses.

You did an excellent job when you explained the good points of cell phones.
We feel safer when we are always able to call someone.
