Vocabulary

nurture

Hi, Everyone:

In my mother language, there's an idiom, saying (I translated it as) "Different places nurture different people"

Which means people from different places are different in personailities, habits, hobbies, etc

What's the english equivelant of it?

Thanks in advance:-)

It reminds me of a joke,:

A friend was touring Ireland by car.
Stopping at a red light, she took the
opportunity to gaze at the lush
scenery, and was oblivious to the light
changing to green and back to red again.
The driver behind got out of his car and
unleashed the Irish equivalent of road rage:
“Would it be a particular shade of green you
are looking for?”Emotion: big smile

I think it was the late Danny Kaye who presented a programme, many years ago now, which showed that very young children from all over the world had exactly the same mannerisms and play patterns. Their particular national characteristics and behaviour only developed as they grew older.
