Numerals

As it's known Numerals don't go with definite article THE - like two, three, five etc.

But sometimes I find such examples like - .... the two officers were sitting at a table with my notebook infront them. And some other examples have been found by me. Could you explain when it is needed to use the definite article with numerals.

Top answer

Well, the usage of the definite article "the" depends on the context. When the two officers have been referred before, it is perfectly okay to use two officers. For example: Jack and Jill are army officers.

Hi Ticce

This is very simple. You use the when you refer to a specific group that has been mentioned.
Cf.
There are boys in the room. The boys are watching television.
