Numbers in Formal Writing

In formal writing, can we go with the numeric versions in these instead of the spelled-out variants?

a 24-hour supermarket

instead of: a twenty-four-hour supermarket

a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week surveillance

instead of: a twenty-four-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week surveillance

Thank you.

It depends on what kind of formal writing. If it's that formal, you should have been directed to use a style guide which will answer your question. For general writing, a rule of thumb is to write out ordinary single-digit numbers and use numerals for everything else.
