I suggest: "What number president of USA is Mr X?"

Maybe we just need to start using "how manieth?" It makes sense, people would understand it - and in another 200 years, it would be acceptable.

I think I'd say instead "Which number president of the US was X?"

YL: The key differences in ours (either which or what would work) is the tense of the verb (was) and the US.
