numbers

Hi,

Any help would be welcome...

1) Ten dollars has/have been stolen from my purse (I think has)

2) A percentage of them/those (those answers) was/wrong (I think either them or those is correct and that "were" should be used)

Thanks

1) You are correct. [ an amount of $10 has been stolen from my purse] 2) A percentage of those Now, about the verb. You'll get differing views.

  • A percentage requires a singular verb, logically.
  • However, because of the proximity of those , a plural verb simply sounds better.

A percentage of them / those answers were wrong. (A percentage of those answers refers to more than one answer, so a plural verb is needed.)
