Number

Hello. I'd like to ask three questions about this number:

Seven hundred and seventy two million three hundred and ninety eight thousand one hundred and five.

1) Are the "and" well inserted?
2) Is there any difference between British and American English when it comes to write it?
3) Is it necessary to put a comma somewhere?

Top answer

Hello Latin 1) Yes. 2) Looks fine in BrE. I'll let someone else speak for AmE.

Hello Latin

1) Yes.
2) Looks fine in BrE. I'll let someone else speak for AmE.
3) It would be more merciful to the reader if you were to insert commas thus:

'Seven hundred and seventy two million, three hundred and ninety eight thousand, one hundred and five.'

Thought I hadn't seen you around for a while. What have you been counting?

MrP, well, you never hear about this kind of numbers very often, I just wanted to be sure. Any time life can give you a cheque for this amount, and I want to be prepared and spell it well.
