numb

When we say " numb a feeling or emotion", does it mean to suppress that feeling or emotion?

The definition of "numb" in my dictionary only considers physical part of human's body and behavior.

Thanks

"Numb" is often applied to emotions. I'm not too pleased with an active use, as in something like "She numbed her love." You see it used in things like "His death left her numb."
