It depends what the call is.
To me a crank call suggests someone making a (not very funny) joke call. For example calling a zoo and asking for Mr C Lion.
An unwanted sales call is junk to me.
An unwanted (threatening/scary) call is a 'heavy breather' a 'stalker' or a threatening call.
