Hi, what can you say when your friend has made a decision which you support? As in: "You know, I won't move to Alaska to become an emerite" etc. You say "Good to hear!" or "I'm happy to hear that!" or "I'm glad to hear that!" or ...??? Thank you!

Top answer

That's good to hear! I'm happy to hear that! I'm glad to hear that!

Hi

Only anon can truly say

I took it as a typo for emerita - a lady who has retired from an academic (or similar) post but who honourably retains her title

Google has at least two Professors Emeritae in Alaska; and also a Choral Director Emerita who has toured Alaska

Hi again

I would be happiest if anon came back and told us

But the word may - more likely - be a typo for eremite. This is not often heard in UK English but I believe it is used popularly in other languages. It is from the Greek word for desert and means a person who - usually for religious reasons - chooses to live far away from everyone else. A hermit, in fact

I'm sorry for all this confusion...though your comments gave me some funny moments ;-)

It was indeed a typo for eremite (in my language it's a usual word) - so the usual word in English is hermit? But yes, I meant a person who chooses to live far away from everyone else. But thanks for your input!

Hi,

Yes, 'hermit' is correct. Emotion: big smile
