In recent years, the number of people going by bicycle is declining due to the advance of many fast-and-convenient vehicles. However, some measures could be taken to encourage people to use bicycles more widely.
There are several reasons why now few people use bicycles to commute than it was in the past. First of all, the development of electric bicycles and cars not only reduces the emission of carbon dioxide, which directly contributes to the greenhouse effect but also provides high-speed traveling. For instance, high-school students in cities of Vietnam tend to go to school by electric bicycles rather than bikes or motorbikes, which is conducive to a decrease in cyclists in Vietnam. Furthermore, nowadays going by bicycle is regarded as a dangerous thing, especially in some Asian countries like India, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, since there is no dedicated cycling path for bikes. This means that cyclists have to ride in the same lane as other vehicles.
A number of solutions could be adopted to tackle the problems associated with the fall of bicycle users. The primary solution is that the government should set up a bicycle station where bikes are kept so that individuals can take one from there and use it on a regular basis. For example, the authority in Ho Chi Minh City - a city in the south of Vietnam, has launched a free bicycle service for its residents in order to raise people’s awareness of the importance of bicycles. Another solution is that the government should provide separate cycling lanes for cyclists, therefore; they would get the courage to ride bicycles for their daily commuting.
In summary, cycling is still not widely prevalent in many countries. Nevertheless, some measures could be implemented to improve the situation.
