Vocabulary

Now / in their passing

Hi teachers,

Men and (now increasingly) women fight wars for all sorts of reasons, sometimes out of nobility or at least necessity. We think of the "Good War," World War II, whose warriors are fast dying off now, honored in their passing.

Does now mean: Those who survived the WWII are dying one by one now and they are honored when they died. (If not would you rewrite it for me, please)

Thank you.

Hi Clive,

Thank you very much.

Does "honored" here mean some kind of ceremonial service performed like firing gunshots, or the coffin covered with American flag to these once soldiers?

Thanks again.

Hi,

It can mean that.
Or it can mean that we simply think of them with honour, speak of them with honour, remember them with honour.
