Nouns and articles

Hello,

I've got a problem with the two nouns: holiday (=vacation) and family.

We say: visit me next Friday/weekend/month but what about holiday:

visit me next holiday, or visit me on next holiday or visit me on the next holiday - which of the three sounds most natural idiomatic English? Or maybe there's another option.

The next problem is the word "family". When we talk about it in a general way, should we say:

Living far away from family is hard or Living away from a family is hard or living away from the family is hard?

Thank you in advance for any explanation, have a fabulous day today,

Adrian.
