I thought brave and fierce were an adjectives but I have seen the as a definitions for abstract noun s

It can look this way if the noun is omitted. At the end of the sentence, a noun such as "man" is understood, but not said. A well known phrase is ...

- The fight is for the brave.

But also, "brave" can be a straightforward noun: a brave warrior or fighter ...

- He turned up to the fight with five braves.

I can't think of any examples with "fierce",
