There is no rule. I almost always prefer the noun. Others may have other preferences.

To me, #3 refers to 'all the information', whereas #1 and #2 refer to 'some information'.

Do you feel they'd be more nearly equivalent if we dropped the "the" before "information" in #3?
That's how it strikes me.
