Noun-pronoun agreement

Hi,

Everyone was doing his/her homework.

Is the above sentence correct? (or must we change "his/her" to "their" or a better singular pronoun) (btw just to confirm "was" is correct right?)

Thanks

Hello, Everyone was doing his/her homework. I think this sentence is correct. Because every refers to singular noun and therefore singular pronoun is to be used.
