Noun clusters

OK in this noun cluster we are to determine the headword noun and then other parts of the cluster..."four towns in Kosovo" is the cluster...now would the headword noun be "towns" or "Kosovo"?

Top answer

"towns", because "Kosovo" is the object of the preposition "in". A noun within a prepositional phrase that modifies another noun couldn't be the head noun. Hence, in the italicized portion, "phrase" could not be the head.
