Notebook, trail

Hi,

1) How would you describe this notebook? Can I say that it flips open upward or that it’s an upward opening notebook?

2) If a really smelly person walks by, can I use these?

“Someone swooshed past me and left a trail of a bad smell behind.”

“I was trapped in a trail of someone’s smell.”

“The wake of someone’s smell struck me in the face.”

Thank you.
