Martha: He came to Metropolis U. to take a finance course and he was sitting by a
fountain all denim (wearing jeans?) and flannel eating an apple. And I asked to borrow
his notes. He didn't know that I was the note-taker for the class. (she supplied the class with her notes because
no one took notes?) He still doesn't.

You pretty much have it. Denim and flannel are obviously two kinds of fabric, and the reasonable assumption would be that the combination he wore took the form of a flannel shirt and denim p
