Note on Jerry Springer's accent

A while back there was a primarily-sci.lang thread that dealt with the question of whether Jerry Springer, the former mayor of Cincinnati, the current TV talk show host, and possible future Senator from Ohio, sounded like Woody Allen. Since Springer's now in the news, I've finally gotten a chance to hear what his accent is like; it is indeed a New York accent of a traditional sort, and rather Brooklynish. He's retained lots of non-rhoticism too.

I wouldn't say Springer's accent is very much like Woody Allen's, but it's not altogether different either, and I'm good at hearing distinctions among New York-region accents.
