Notation, embroiled

Hi,

1) When you solve equations, you need to write down all the steps to make it clear how you arrived at your answer. Would this be called ‘notation’?

“You can’t forget about a proper notation.”

2)Can you be embroiled in an argument? Does it sound formal?

“Things got out of hand and we ended up being embroiled in a very heated argument.”

Thank you.

In the US you'd say: "You need to show all the steps in your solution/show your work."

The sentence, "Things got out of hand and we ended up being embroiled in a very heated argument.", is entirely correct, but very formal for everyday conversation. In the US you might say, for example: "Things got out of hand and we ended up fighting/arguing/getting into a big fight/getting into
