What does the time when Woody Allen reigns the movie house mean?
I saw it being used in the following paragraph:
"
It meant being interesting (if sometimes exasperating) at a time when psychoanalysis reigned in intellectual circles and Woody Allen reigned in movie houses.
"
I mean it must have some kind of subtext, such as the time was some sort of golden age of the 20th century, such that everybody was being optimistic(the article's actually about neurotics).
