Not to or do not

I am wondering if it is correct to say:

I try not to forget what I wanted to say.
or
I try do not forget what I wanted to say?

Or both of these sentences are wrong?

Top answer

The first is OK, the second is not. Better: I try not to forget what I want to say. I tried not to forget what I wanted to say.

  • The first is OK, the second is not.
