Hi

Two prisoners are talking with each other.

One says to another: Why not kill us now (he thought the guards wanted to kill them)? Not that I'm glad they're not - he added.

I'm not sure how to understand that bolded part?

Seems odd: he's not glad they're not killing him. I think another 'not' is missing before 'glad'.
