Not sure what to call this.

I am writing an article with numerous 'XXX' that are not true quotation marks to emphasize some words.. For example the 'light' at the end of the tunnel. Or it is 'most' important to first see your doctor.

If I end with a 'xxx', does the period go inside or outside the '?
