Not specific?

Hi. I am not sure bout I think when a person or thing or incident is identified, we usually use the definite article "the" to make it known it that it has been identified. But why is that we don't need the definite article the underlined tragic incident? I think the example sentence below without the article "the" in parentheses is correct. Thank you in advance for your help.

eg,

He was shocked to hear the news on (the?) Thorton Walmart shooting.
