Not so much bad English as bad style

hello,

Can anyone tell me what the following means?

Those expressions listed here are not so much bad English as bad style, the common places of careless writing.

Does it mean those expressions are not bad English and are not bad style?

What is the role of "the common places of careless writing" in the sentence? I am not getting why it attaches at the end of the sentence.

thanks

The sentence itself is not very good to begin with. It seems they are trying to say the examples are bad style rather than bad English. "The common places of careless writing," seems to be an incomplete thought - an example perhaps of the point?
